Saint Peter's was begun in 1160 AD. It was converted into a Protestant church in 1536, at which point John Calvin preached here for almost thirty years. After the church was transformed, the statues, paintings, and other decorations, along with the altars, pews, and other furniture were removed from the building, leaving the inside conspicuously void of any and all decoration. I have never seen a stripped church on this scale before. I do have to say though, even stripped, the way the light shining through the stained glass and onto the bare walls is beautiful.

Cathédrale St-Pierre
Geneva's cathedral sits on a site that has been home to a place of Christian worship since the 4th century. There is an extensive archeological site underneath the cathedral that you can visit that supposedly has beautiful mosaics intact. I will make a trip to see it the next time I'm in town and let you know how it is.
